What is a DITY move?

Normally, when active service members make a Permanent Change of Station (PCS), the government hires and covers the costs for a commercial contractor to pack and move your household goods. However, there is an alternative - the Personally Procured Move program (PPM a.k.a. DITY move).

How can a DITY move benefit you?

With a DITY move you can rent a truck, use your own vehicle, or hire your own movers and get reimbursed for up to 95% of the amount it would have cost the government to move you. If your cost is less than what the government will reimburse you, you can actually make money - especially with military savings from Penske.

There are rules and regulations around DITY moves, but for many service members, making a do-it-yourself move could be a very smart move. Check with your Personal Property Office (PPO) or Transportation Management Office (TMO) for all the details to find out if a DITY move is right for you.
