Helpful Packing Materials

The right moving supplies can make your move easier on you and safer for your belongings. Choose the right packing supplies for your move.

• Packing tape - used to close a box securely. Use a strong plastic tape, at least two inches wide, to seal your moving boxes.
• Bubble wrap - provides good cushioning for lightweight items and can be cut to wrap almost any shape or size. It should not be used to wrap heavy items. Use several layers to ensure that the entire product is protected, including corners and edges.
• Packing paper - wrapped and crumpled to fill empty space inside a package with light to medium weight items. When using packing paper, tightly crumple the paper and use at least two inches around and between items. Avoid using newspaper to wrap items because the print may rub off on your belongings. Never use newsprint to wrap items with sensitive surfaces, such as lamp shades.
• Foam peanuts - used to fill empty spaces in packages that contain lightweight, non-fragile items. Use enough peanuts to ensure the contents don't move when you shake the box. Overfill the box slightly to account for the settling that will occur during your move.
• Box markers - used to clearly label the contents of each box for an easy transition when you're ready to unpack your Penske truck. Don't forget to label more delicate items as “FRAGILE.” Maybe even use a different color marker so it's obvious when you're handling a fragile item.
• Box cutter - use for cutting bubble wrap to size, getting into those boxes when you're ready to unpack, breaking boxes down for storage or cutting the ribbon on your new home.
• Moving blankets - to cover, wrap, cushion and protect furniture, appliances and fragile items from scratches and dents.
• Mattress covers - to protect your mattress and box spring from dirt, dust and water during your move.
• Ropes and bungee cords - for securing large items from shifting during transportation.
• Padlock - for locking the rear door of your truck during your move.
