Moving Truck Customers

We recently bought our first home together in Scottsdale, Arizona. We quickly realized that we did not have nearly enough furniture, garden equipment, tools and other essentials to furnish and properly take care of the house we had just purchased. As always, my dad offered to help. He still resides in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and offered to rent a Penske truck, fill it with items and drive it to Arizona with me. I was thrilled!

I took a flight back to Cleveland as soon as I could. My dad and I picked up the Penske truck and starting loading it with my old mattress and bedroom set, computer desk and some other furniture. My parents and grandparents also allowed me to go through their belongings in search of items that we could use in our new home. As soon as the truck was tightly packed, my dad and I along with my dog Scooter embarked on our adventure.

We loved the Penske truck from the very beginning and often referred to ourselves as “truckers”. We would take breaks at rest stops and use the “trucker exit” instead of the “car exit” because we thought it was cooler. We also ate and filled up our gas tank at the infamous “Flying J” trucker stops.

Our journey took us from Ohio through Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and finally to our destination, Scottsdale, Arizona. In Ohio, we stopped to see my Aunt Patty and Cousin Mick in Columbus. We additionally stopped in Indianapolis, Oklahoma City and Albuquerque to sleep. In Arizona, we stopped at the Petrified Forest where trees had turned into stone. Our best stop, however, was in Amarillo, Texas where we stopped to eat at a restaurant called the Big Texan. This place was huge, just like everything in Texas. The restaurant offered a free 72 ounce steak if you could finish it. We were pretty sure my eight-pound dog Scooter would have tried to eat the whole thing, but we did not think it would be a good idea!

Throughout the entire trip, Scooter slept in a bed we had made him between our seats and eagerly begged for human food whenever we were eating. That might be because my Dad ordered his breakfast with bacon every morning so he could give it to Scooter (bacon is Scooter’s favorite). Talk about a spoiled dog - he really had a blast on our adventure!

Our entire trip took about four days and we enjoyed every minute - not only because of the memories we made, but also because of the comfort our Penske truck provided.
