FAQ

Have a Question About Commercial Truck Rental?

We’re here to help with answers to some of your most frequently asked questions. If you’re still unable to find what you’re looking for, give us a call or get in touch through our contact form.

  1. What kind of roadside assistance does Penske offer?
Penske 24/7 Roadside Assistance operates around the clock. Our network combines more than 980 Penske facilities and over 22,000 vendors to provide you with the best emergency service in the industry.
  2. Will I need any special permits to drive a truck? If so, how can I acquire them?
It’s possible you may require a fuel or distance permit for your vehicle. If so, our Fleet Services team will apply for, purchase and install most permits necessary for your interstate or intrastate travel. (Note: There are exceptions, such as the new Connecticut Highway Use Fee, which requires you to register your business for a permit instead of Penske.)
  3. Do I need a special license to drive a truck?
A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is required to drive certain trucks. Penske has both CDL and Non-CDL vehicles available for rent, as well as information discussing the difference between CDL and Non-CDL trucks.
  4. Who is responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs?
Regularly scheduled preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, tire replacement or repairs, and roadside assistance are all included with your truck rental. You are responsible for insurance coverage, fuel and any damage beyond normal wear and tear.
  5. What coverage options can I get through Penske?
We offer limited damage waiver (LDW), liability (LIA) and supplemental liability coverage (SLI). Read more about our coverage options.
  6. What is the environmental fee?
Penske is committed to doing its part to protect our environment. In the operation of our truck rental business, we handle several materials, such as waste oils, solvents and petroleum products, that may be harmful to the environment and, therefore, must be disposed of properly and in accordance with the law. Penske charges a nominal environmental fee on all local, one-way and commercial rentals to cover these costs. Please review your rental agreement for fee details.
  7. How do I operate the liftgate on my rental truck?
Penske has compiled step-by-step instructions and recorded a video to help you safely operate the liftgate on your rental truck. View instructions here.
